Emptiness

The nature of mind is such that it is empty.

The nature of mind is such that it can be filled.

But, fundamentally, the nature of mind is that it is empty. And that emptiness is in itself perfect peace and contentment.

The mind has no substance. It is not made of matter. It is not made of neurons or their electro-chemical activity. The mind is in fact an empty space in which all manner of phenomena can appear.

Disregarding all passing phenomena, the nature of the mind is empty. And that emptiness is in itself perfect peace and contentment.

All this is known intuitively; naturally, in the moment that the mind is empty and then suddenly, spontaneously, the very first phenomena appears. A sound or a fleeting image. A sensation or feeling. Perhaps simply the knowledge of being present. Whatever it is that appears, it appears within that emptiness. Within that perfect peace.

And whatever it is that appears, it is known. Because it is this emptiness that is aware; is in itself the capacity to know. There can be no doubt about it, because in this emptiness there is simply nothing else. There is nothing there that can claim to be the thing that is aware.

The nature of mind is such that it is empty.

The nature of mind is such that it can be filled.

This is your nature. A description of what you are. Because you are not other than this mind.
